Why We Do What We Do
According to the 2022 Census Bureau, only 9.8% of South Fulton residents experience poverty. However, the per capita income from 2017 to 2021 was only $33,103. Data suggest that while the residents of South Fulton are supporting their families, there is a narrow line between inflation, rising costs of living, and having access to funds in the event of an emergency. It is for these reasons that TUFM does not require income, identification, or geographic requirements.
Individuals and families in need of emergency help to put food on the table are aided by our food sharing initiative. Nearly half of the people we serve are children and nearly one-fifth are senior citizens. In the families we serve, there is at least one working person.
The UFM collects food from the various supermarkets, grocery distributors, and food banks in metro Atlanta and the City of South Fulton and distributes these resources to individuals and families. The majority of the food we distribute is in the form of fresh vegetables, bread, and other non-perishable items. Individuals and families are encouraged to take a 3-5 day supply of food. The remaining resources are dedicated to providing food to other local non-profit organizations that also conduct recurring food donation events.
